Social media continues to play a crucial role for libraries as a way to both inform and engage with the community. This edition of the Social Library highlights a library loaning skateboards, Pride Month celebrations, staff anniversaries and two library centennials! If you'd like your library to be featured in an upcoming edition of the Social Library, let us know via [email protected] or find us on Facebook

  • Fredericton Public Library in Canada, in partnership with Fredericton Recreation, has announced their new Free Skateboards on Loan program! The library has an assortment of boards (assembled by East Side Shop), helmets, knee, elbow pads and wrist guards, ready for kids and adults to check out for a week-long loan, and there's also a brand new all-wheel sports plaza next door to the library! The local CTV news station helped spread the word about this unique service, including the free skate maintenance workshop offered by the library.
  • Plainfield | Guilford Township Public Library in Indiana caught our eye with a wonder staff appreciation post: "Celebrating our colleague David 'The Tie Guy's' 20th anniversary at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library." We're big fans of using social media to recognize library staff, as humans are certainly our greatest resource. Happy anniversary, David!

The contest was open to entrants 12 and up, to design a logo to celebrate the 100th birthday of the library, and that reflects the library’s mission statement. The winner will be awarded a $100 cash prize, sponsored by the Friends of the Library Group.
  • NYPL The New York Public Library is celebrating #PrideMonth with book recommendations, free online events, highlights from their digital collections, and much more—for all ages. Check out 100 books for adults, kids, and teens highlighting transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming voices recommended by NYPL staff, as well as other Pride Month Reads.
